Ausgangspunkt für diese audiovisuelle Komposition war Harun Farockis Film „Arbeiter verlassen die Fabrik" (1995).

Hauptuntersuchungsgegenstand ist der sinnliche Kontrapunkt von Klängen und Bildern, ihre Interaktion, Mehrdeutigkeit und Reibung. Wie formt eine bestimmte Musik die Wahrnehmung von Bildern. Wie formen Bilder die Wahrnehmung einer bestimmten Musik. In seinem Buch _Audio-Vision: Sound on Screen_ sagt Michel Chion, dass Klang und Bild immer unabhängig sind, und lediglich unsere Konditionierung und unser Gebrauch von Konventionen der Synchronisation lässt uns glauben, sie wären es nicht. Der französische Filmemacher Robert Bresson prägte eine, wie ich meine, erhellende Metapher: »Bilder und Klänge sind wie Fremde, die sich auf einer Reise kennen lernen und sich danach nicht mehr trennen können.«

BIO:

Mario Verandi (1960, San Nicolas, Buenos Aires). Studium (Musik und Informatik) 1979-85 in Buenos Aires und Rosario, Argentinien; 1986-89 in Barcelona im Phonos Electroacoustic Music Studio. 1992 bis 2000 lebte er in London. 2001 erwarb er seinen Doktortitel im Fach Komposition an der University of Birmingham (GB).

Er war composer-in-residence in den Studios von »La Muse en Circuit« in Paris, im »Césaré studio de création musicale« in Reims, am ZKM in Karlsruhe und in den Cuenca Electroacoustic Studios in Spanien. 2000 war Mario Verandi Gast des Berliner Künstlerprogramms des DAAD. 2003-2004 Dozent an der Freien Universität Berlin.

Die Arbeit Mario Verandis erhielt eine Reihe von Preisen und Auszeichnungen, wie z.B. den Bourges International Electroacoustic Music Award in Frankreich, den Musica Nova Awards in Prag, den CIEJ Musics Electronics Award in Barcelona, den Prix Ars Electronica in Linz, Stockholm Electronic Art Award, SGAE Electroacoustic Music Awards (Spanien) und den ZKM Komposition Preis (Europäische Glockentage 2004) Mario Verandis ‘uvre umfasst elektroakustische Musik, Instrumentalwerke, Kunstinstallationen und Musik für Tanz, Kurzfilme und Theater sowie Radiostücke.
Das New Yorker Label EMF (Electronic Music Foundation) hat Mario Verandis Musik auf einer Solo-CD 'Distant Shores' (2001) veröffentlicht.

The film "Arbeiter verlassen die Fabrik" (1995) by Harun Farocki set the starting framework for the creation of this audio-visual work. The main area of exploration is the sensory counterpoint of sounds and images and their interaction, ambiguity and friction. My aim was to create a music that works parallel to the film images; a music that could also work independently of the film and at the same time is inspired and structured by the film. How does a particular music shape the perception of images?. How do images shape the perception of a particular music?. In his book "Audio-Vision: Sound on Screen" Michel Chion suggests that sound and image are always independent, and it is simply our conditioning and use of conventions of synchronization that make us believe that they are not. I believe the French filmmaker Robert Bresson provides us with an illuminating metaphor: "Images and sounds, like strangers who make acquaintance on a journey and afterwards cannot separate".

BIO:

Mario Verandi (1960, San Nicolas, Buenos Aires). He studied music in Argentina and later at the Phonos Electroacoustic Music Studios in Barcelona. He continued his studies at the University of Birmingham (UK) where he completed a PhD in Musical Composition. He was guest lecturer at the Musicology Department of the Free University Berlin in 2003-2004. Verandis´works include acousmatic music, instrumental pieces, music for dance and theater as well as sound installations and radiophonic works. He was composer-in-residence at La Muse en Circuit (Paris), the Césaré studio de création musicale (Reims), ZKM (Karlsruhe), Cuenca Electroacoustic Music Studios (Spain) and a guest of the 2000 artists-in-residence in Berlin program of the DAAD. Verandi's awards include the Bourges International Electroacoustic Music Competition (France), Musica Nova Competition (Prague), CIEJ Electronic Music Awards (Barcelona), Prix Ars Electronica (Linz), Stockholm Electronic Art Awards (Sweden), SGAE Prize (Spain) and ZKM European Bell Days Commission Prize (Germany). His works have been performed and broadcast worldwide and featured at festivals such as the MaerzMusik Berlin, Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival (USA), Inventionen (Berlin), ISCM World Music Days (Manchester), Festival Musica (Strasbourg), State of the Nation (London), Rumours Concerts (UK), Logos Concerts (Belgium), and Stockholm Electronic Music Festival. Verandi´s music is available on the EMF (Electronic Music Foundation) label from New York as well as on several compilation CDs.
