Background of the EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSORSHIP FOR COMPUTER MUSIC

1. In spring 2000 the Technical University Berlin, the Artists-in-Berlin Program of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst/DAAD) and rbb / Radio Berlin-Brandenburg (former Sender Freies Berlin) created the EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSORSHIP FOR COMPUTER MUSIC.

The EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSORSHIP FOR COMPUTER MUSIC is intended to serve the techniques and critical reflection on computer music. The appearance of important artists and scientists will contribute to the cultural life of the city of Berlin.

The candidates for the EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSORSHIP FOR COMPUTER MUSIC will be selected by a high-ranking interdisciplinary jury.

 

2) Duration of the professorship

The invitation is extended for one semester (Summer Term: April-July, Winter Term: October-February), in total 48 hours teaching-time. The time schedule can be flexibly arranged.

 

Program of the EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSORSHIP FOR COMPUTER MUSIC

3.1. Lecture at Berlin Technical University

The guest is included as full member of the faculty into the program of studies at the Fakultät 1 at Berlin Technical University. The subject and format of the classes/lectures will be chosen by the Guest Professor. He should attend to the field of computer music, that is the broad field between questions of musicology and engineering science. The lecture can be held either in German or English.

3.2. Press Conference

In order to promote his/her work, the Guest Professor will be presented to the media at a press Conference within the first weeks of his/her stay. Local and international press will be invited to meet the author at the press conference.

3.3. Public Event

During the Guest Professor's visit at least one high profile public appearance will be organized. This will be jointly conceived according to the wishes of the Guest Professor.

 

 

Grant information

The grant includes:

A stipend of about 6.600 Euro for 3 months.

International and national travel expenses to cover the Guest Professor's journey to Germany and back to his/her home country (the amount depends on the country!).

 

Travel Arrangements

The EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSOR FOR COMPUTER MUSIC is kindly asked to organize his/her own travel arrangements.

 

Accommodation

If requestet, the accommodation of the guest CAN be organised by the Technical University Berlin.

 

Office Facilities

The EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSOR FOR COMPUTER MUSIC will be provided with his/her own office in the Technical University Berlin. The office will be equipped with all required facilities (computer, internet access, telephone).

 

Contribution

The EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSOR FOR COMPUTER MUSIC will be integrated into the academic circle of the university and be attended to and supported by the partners during the entire time of his/her stay. All partners will make all possible contacts available to help integrate the EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST PROFESSOR FOR COMPUTER MUSIC into the social and cultural life of Berlin and Germany.

 

Formalities

The guest is kindly requested to arrange his/her own visa requirements in his/her home country prior to departure.

The guest is kindly requested to furnish the organisers of the EDGARD VARÈSE GUEST-PROFESSORSHIP FOR COMPUTER MUSIC with a Curriculum Vitae including the present position/profession and a photo.
